Microsoft and Sony begin a revolutionary Azure based cloud partnership

Earlier this year, Sony shocked the industry when it announced they would be forming a partnership with Microsoft. The partnership would see PlayStation utilise the Azure cloud computing service to develop cloud based gaming and AI.

Microsoft and Sony? Working together? Well the back story is far simpler and makes a lot of sense. Sony is not working directly with its competitor, Xbox. Rather, Sony is working with Microsoft’s Azure, cloud computing division.

Apparently, the decision was so unusual, that even the PlayStation team was “blindsided” by the decision.

Sony’s decision to approach Microsoft and use the Azure Platform isn’t an unheard of decision. Companies like Apple use Samsung’s displays. It’s all about getting the best product for you customers.

For now, it seems like the partnership will mostly be about Sony taking advantage of Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure, but in the future, you could even start to see Microsoft software on various Sony devices.
