Current Airbag technology helps protect car occupants from serious injury, but it could be improved. Hyundai and Kia are working on bringing new hi-tech multi-collision airbags to vehicles.
Authorities state that in 30 per cent of accidents involve more than one impact. This new technology works by readying the airbags not deployed to go off at much lower impact levels. Therefore allowing them to deploy more quickly and effectively in subsequent collisions.
“By improving airbag performance in multi-collision scenarios, we expect to significantly improve the safety of our drivers and passengers,” states Taesoo Chi, a Hyundai safety engineer. Hyundai has also stated that they have several other safety features that they are working on.
